NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Optimum is calling on Nexstar, owner of multiple broadcast stations across the country, to put its viewers first and stop raising TV prices for consumers. While Nexstar continues to make unreasonable demands that are out of step with the reality of today’s television landscape, Optimum is at the forefront of the fight for customers’ rights while offering them affordable video solutions to keep costs down.

In addition to its outrageous rates that demand “the highest level of any broadcast group” and its anti-consumer negotiating tactics, which include tying local channels to less popular channels and forcing them to carry specific, conflicting content, Nexstar also continues to avoid… Federal Communications Commission (BME:) and the various regulations in place to protect consumers.

Optimum issued the following statement about its negotiations with Nexstar and disappointment in its continued anti-consumer stance and disregard for the best interests of its viewers:

Last year, the FCC found that Nexstar’s role in negotiating carriage rights for WPIX-TV in New York, owned by Mission Broadcasting, violated television ownership rules and proposed a fine and other penalties against Nexstar. However, Nexstar insists on continuing to negotiate carriage agreements on behalf of WPIX-TV despite the commission’s ruling.

This move says a lot about Nexstar’s playbook: Buy the rights to as many local broadcast stations as possible and then ask consumers to pay more to watch all Nexstar-owned content, regardless of where they live or what they actually want to watch.

That’s enough. At Optimum, we don’t believe it’s fair for customers to be forced to pay for channels like NewsNation, which 90% of our customers don’t watch, or for their local broadcast stations to be held captive by contract negotiations for separate channels and stations in remote locations across the country. . We stand up for our customers and ensure they get the choice, flexibility and value they deserve when choosing their desired TV content.

Despite all of this, we remain open to continued negotiations with Nexstar to restore its programming to the Optimum TV lineup. In the meantime, customers looking to watch Nexstar-owned content can continue to do so for free over the air with an antenna or visit www.optimum.com/Nexstar To learn more about the solutions Optimum provides them.

For more information, Optimum today filed this letter with the FCC regarding its ongoing negotiations with Nexstar.
