Bridget Brink, the American ambassador to Ukraine, is recessing after increasing political differences with the administration of President Donald Trump, according to persons familiar with its decision.
The people said that her departure also comes amid a deterioration in her working relationship with Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski, although this was not the reason for giving up her role.
Brenk is a professional diplomat appointed by Trump during his first term to be an American ambassador to Slovakia. She was later appointed as ambassador to Ukraine by President Joe Biden.
People familiar with Brenk’s decision to step down said that she was subjected to increasing pressure from the highest figures in the Trump administration, which questioned her willingness to support their strategy in Ukraine.
Trump’s policy on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has torn out many Biden’s work, which supported Kiev with billions of dollars in military and financial assistance and imposed sanctions on Moscow.
