Ukraine seeks to persuade US to resume aid in high-stakes talks

Ukraine will try to persuade the United States to resume intelligence and military support in high -risk bilateral talks this week by persuading Donald Trump that Volodimir Zelinski wants a quick end to the war with Russia.

Officials who have seen the preparations for negotiations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that Kiev was to propose a partial ceasefire with Russia for the high drone plane on drones and combat operations in the Black Sea, in the hope that the progress of the Washington talks would lead to the opposite of its decision to freeze to freeze intelligence and provide the supplier to the weapon.

Ukrainian negotiators travel to Saudi Arabia on Monday after the first days without the support of the United States, which led to the abandonment of the country’s forces from the Russian territories they seized last year in the Korsk region.

One of the Ukrainian officials added that Kiev will give priority in the short term in determining her relations with the United States, while two European officials said that Kiev witnessed the progress of the ceasefire talks as he was obsessed with restarting military and intelligence aid.

“The goal of any negotiations between the Ukrainian authorities and the United States in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will, in particular, will agree to the resumption of assistance,” said Federi Fermelmersteki, Ukrainian deputy from the Zelinski Party and member of the National Security Committee in Parliament at late last week.

A spokeswoman spokesman said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be in the city of Jeddah from Monday to Wednesday to hold talks, with a summary “to strengthen the president’s goal to end the Russian war and the caramels.”

In comments on Fox News on Sunday, Trump did not mention bilateral talks directly, but he said he was confident that the “value” metal deal will be signed with Kyiv soon.

He rejected the criticism that he was relatively soft towards Moscow, who threatened him with sanctions last week after suspending Ukraine. “No one was more striking on Russia by Donald Trump,” he said.

The American pressure on Kiev forced the Zelinski administration to change its position after a catastrophic meeting on February 28 at the White House.

“The tactics have changed,” said Volodymyr Fesenko, Kiev’s political analyst. “Now the most important [thing] It is the normalization of relations with the United States, and if the plan has obtained security guarantees first and then paid for a ceasefire, it is now clear that it will not happen in this order. “

He added: “Trump says that Ukraine does not want a ceasefire, so the goal of us is to show the United States that we are ready to work as soon as possible, and start direct negotiations with Russia.”

Zelenskyy told the European Union leaders in Brussels on Thursday that it wanted to reach a general framework agreement with the United States that would pave the way for more detailed agreements on mineral resources and security guarantees.

The broader deal will start stopping air attacks, operations at sea, and other civil infrastructure strikes.

It will continue with the exchange of prisoners and the return of Ukrainian children who were kidnapped by the Russian authorities, and measures aimed at building confidence between the two sides.

The Ukrainian President will fly to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with the start of Jeddah negotiations the next day.

Andrei Yermak, the head of the Zelinski office, will lead the Ukrainian negotiating team with Foreign Minister Andrei Sibha, Defense Minister Rostam Omrouf and Vice President of President Pavlo Palisa office.

Ursula von der Lin, President of the European Commission, said Brussels and Kiev “are very closely closely.”

While European officials say about 20 countries, led by the United Kingdom and France, have indicated that it could form a “preparedness” to support Ukraine after the ceasefire, Trump has so far refused to commit this force.

The US president was angry last week when his Ukrainian counterpart suggested that an agreement to end the war was still very far away. “If someone does not want a deal, this person will not be very long,” Trump said after that.

But KYIV did not abandon the United States, which takes some forms of role in any ceasefire, according to European officials who spoke with their Ukrainian counterparts before the talks.

It indicates that it can include, but it is not limited to the use of satellites or intelligence signals for the ceasefire.

NBC News reported that on Sunday, US officials said that the metal deal will not be sufficient for Trump to resume aid and intelligence participation. He added that the American president also wanted Zelenskyy to change a position on peace talks, including concessions such as giving up lands to Russia, moving towards the elections in Ukraine itself or even step down as a president.

“Ukraine is seeking peace from the first second of this war,” Zellinski wrote on the platform X on Saturday. Realistic suggestions on the table. The key is to move quickly and effectively. “

“A kind of comfort is absolutely unacceptable” without “a final settlement.”
