Rolando “Rolly” Romero has been given a May 2 fight against Ryan Garcia after Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz opted out of it due to his previously scheduled bout next month. This is Rollie’s chance to pull off an upset against Garcia (24-1, 20 KO) on Turki Al-Sheikh’s card in Times Square in New York City.

Rolly steps in

Cruz is scheduled to have a bout against Angel Fierro on February 1st and did not want to negotiate another fight until after the bout. Fans were hoping to see Ryan and Pitbull fight, as it would have been more interesting than watching Rowley get the match.

It is unclear whether there are other fighters available who could intervene. The 140-pound division includes a lot of fighters with more talent than Rollie, and it was great for the fans to see someone else.

Former WBA lightweight champion Rollie (16-2, 13 KO) was knocked out by Pitbull Crews last year in the eighth round on March 30. This was a surprisingly one-sided battle.

On the May 2nd card, Devin Haney will face Jose Ramirez, and heavyweight Martin Bacolli will face Efe Ajagba.
