Prograis: Rolly’s Wildness Could Upset Ryan Garcia

Regis Prograis does not rule out the possibility of former WBA lightweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero beating Ryan Garcia in their fight in Times Square in New York next May.
Flashback sparring session
Former 140-pound champion Prograis feels that with Rowley (16-2, 13 KOs) being so wild with his punches and difficult to time, he can catch Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) with something. Regis points to a sparring session between Garcia and Rolando from 2018 to support his case for Rowley to win.
The sparring has nothing to do with an actual fight, especially when it happened seven years ago when Garcia was skinny and still a teenager. Rolly has looked like a below-average fighter throughout his career, and it could be argued that he should have two more defeats on his resume from his fights against Ismael Barroso and Jackson Marinez, making his actual record at 14-4.
“Rollie and Ryan, I’ve seen the sparring footage. I think this is actually not a predictable fight, because they’re both very wild, and they both can throw punches,” Regis Prograis said. Mill City Boxingdiscussing the May 2nd fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolando “Rolly” Romero in New York’s Times Square.
“Ryan can throw hard punches, and Rollie can throw hard punches. I would say Ryan, but I don’t know if you’ve seen the sparring. Rollie was beating up Ryan in the gym. Rollie is wild. And sometimes it’s hard to time it and fight a wild guy.” Like this.
“So, I would love to go with Ryan, but I wouldn’t rule out Rowley until I hit him with something. I prefer Ryan because he has more experience in big fights and things like that. I prefer him because he’s a bigger star. He’s got that hook, but at the same time, Rowley is wild “So, I’ll just go for Ryan, but it’ll be an interesting fight for sure,” Prograis said.
Regis gave a lot of credit to Rolly Romero in a sparring session that happened seven years ago in 2018. Ryan was 19 years old at the time and Rolly 22 years old. Kingery is now 26 years old, much older than he was during that sparring session. The way Rolly Boom Garcia rushed during that spar will get him eliminated today as he will be nailed by one of his left hooks.
Rollie will likely lose to Ryan’s previous opponents, Oscar Duarte, Devin Haney, and Javier Fortuna. It would be better for Garcia to have a rematch with Duarte instead of using the recently exited Romero as his opponent because there is no winning in his fight now and there never was. Surprisingly, Turki Al-Sheikh did not veto the choice of opponent. If it were me, I’d say: No, Rowley’s not right for the main event of a Times Square card. He doesn’t even deserve to be on the undercard.
Hani’s rematch is inevitable
“Yes, I do,” Prograis said when asked if he favored Garcia in a rematch with Devin Haney. “If Devin can beat Ryan, he can show his greatness. If you can beat someone who beat you like that [it’s special]. When taking all the nutritional supplements he takes [Ryan] He takes it, we take it out [the rematch can be different]”.
It doesn’t make sense for Garcia to beat Devin Haney in a rematch. For fans clinging to the belief that the only reason Ryan won was because he tested positive for Ostarine, they are fooling themselves. He won because he was the better fighter, and Haney couldn’t take a strong punch.
Devin’s constant clinching style that he developed from his fight against Jorge Linares came back to bite him on the butt in this fight, as it put him directly in the line of fire for Ryan’s short left hooks. Haney had to see that by watching tape of Garcia in training camp, and made sure he didn’t try to hold out.
Unfortunately, Devin’s excessive griping has become so ingrained that he can’t stop using it. If you take that away from Haney, it will break him, leaving him as a broken, weak fighter, fodder for almost anyone from 135 to 147. His entire game is built on striking and clutching now.
“We don’t know if this is true or not, but it still happens [Garcia testing positive for Ostarine]“We can tell whatever was in his system, but that fight is still going on,” Regis said. However, he dropped it, hurt it, and dropped it three times. if it was [Haney] He could come out of that and win, that would really show his greatness.
Regis on Haney vs. Ramirez
“It’s possible [Kingry knocking out Haney in rematch]But we’ll have to see what Devin does. We’ll have to see what he does with it [Jose] Ramirez first. “In boxing, anything is possible,” Prograis said.
Regis is right about fans needing to know if Haney will win his fight against former WBA and WBO light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) on May 2 because he will likely lose to him. Turki didn’t say anything about Haney needing to win his fight against Ramirez so he can get a rematch with Kingery in October. So, it probably won’t matter if Haney gets beaten by Ramirez. This is a pitch fight.
