Palestinian Bedouins say Israeli settlers terrorising them off their land | Israel-Palestine conflict News

When Israel began bombing Gaza on October 7, 2023, Fayez Atel felt his community in the occupied West Bank he would also be attacked.

ATIL from the Palestinian village of Zanota, the traditional grazing community in the Jordan Valley.

The settlers of the illegal Israeli settlements were harassed and attacked his village for years. However, violence escalated sharply after Israel launched what many describe as a “genocide” war on Gaza.

“I suddenly felt as a war,” he said to meet Al -Jazeera by phone.

The 45 -year -old added: “Every day and every night, illegal settlers will try to steal our sheep or sabotage our village by destroying our property and cars.”

The 250 residents of Zanota gradually left their village – and the way of life – due to the ongoing and harassing settlers’ attacks.

Ateel mobilized his property and left with his family after the Israeli settlers hit a 77 -year -old Palestinian sponsor at the end of October 2024.

“They overcame the old man, his wife and children,” Ateel said. “This was the first time that we saw this level of aggression from the settlers.”

Easy goals

The Zanota villagers are one of 46 Palestinian society in the occupied West Bank who were expelled from their land by the state -backed Israeli settlers since October 7, 2023, according to Al -Haki, a Palestinian non -profit organization.

“What is happening [to Bedouin communities] It is not just a matter of violent and radical settlers. Barnes, a spokeswoman for the Israeli Human Rights Group, explained that this is the state’s violence.

At the beginning of the Israel war on Gaza, Israel contacted thousands of reserve soldiers who were serving in the West Bank to fight in Gaza, and replaced them with “extremist settlers,” Barnes said.

“The settlers … suddenly they got weapons, ammunition and military uniforms [after October 7]Barnes said, tell the island.

These settlers suddenly possessed the legal authority to kill the Palestinians and arrest them.

All expulsion operations occurred in the region C, which are excluded in the population and rich in agricultural resources.

It includes 60 percent of the occupied West Bank, which is the three largest areas created in the West Bank as part of the 1993 Oslo Agreement between Palestinian and Israeli leaders.

Oslo agreements aim to establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank alongside Israel.

But over the past 32 years, the size of the illegal Israeli settlements there has increased steadily, as its population has increased from about 200,000 to more than 750,000.

The C region C is also under full control of the Israeli army, which makes it easier for settlers – with the support of soldiers – to surround the weak Palestinian societies and expel them from their lands.

This differs from the “A” region, which is technically carrying under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, although the Israeli forces are still shaking it often, while the region B is subject to joint control of the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli army.

“Racist system”

Human rights groups and activists say that the Bedouin Palestinians, who are citizens of Israel, are launched from their lands.

About 120,000 Palestinians live in the so -called “unrecognized villages” through the niqab desert.

They are the descendants of the Palestinians who managed to stay on their soil during Nakba, when the Zionist militias ethnically cleared about 750,000 Palestinians to make room for the state of Israel in 1948.

The Israeli government insists that the Bedouin societies of “unrecognized” villages must simply be transferred to the cities, yet doing this would cut their relationship to the land and threaten their way of life as terror.

Most Bedouin communities hold their right to stay on their soil. However, Israel has long claimed that the Bedouins are the Bedouins who have never settled in one place.

However, Khalil Allamor, the Bedouin leader from the village of Khan Surira, explains that the Bedouins have stopped immigration for more than two centuries, and they always return to their lands after they immigrated a season to search for food for their livestock.

“The Bedouins are stuck on our land. We are a society of indigenous population … we cannot move to another place,” he said.

But Israel refused to provide services to “unrecognized villages”, instead that spoils the residents from their homes and confiscated their lands.

In November 2024, the Israeli police completed the demolition of Umm Al -Hiran, although the Bedouin residents agreed Live along with Jewish settlersThey also told the island in February 2024.

“Violence against us is part of a racist policy against all Bedouins and against Palestinian society in general. Bedouins are part of Palestinian society,” Alamour told Al -Jazeera.

Several Herder societies have been uprooted in the West Bank several times since Nakba.

Abu Bashar, a Palestinian Mukhazar (Mori) from WadiHe said his community has been uprooted four times since the emergence of Israel.

The last incident occurred a few days after October 7, when Israeli settlers stormed society and began to intimidate the population.

About 187 people – 45 to 50 families – they escaped on foot, and walked for hours until they reached Ramon village, where they had so far.

“After October 7, the settlers became crazy. They surrounded our village and came with the army, who protected them, and expelled from our village,” Abu Bashar told Al -Jazeera.

“We are now living in tents and under the trees in terrible circumstances in Ramon,” he said.

Over the past two years, villagers in the Raqq Valley and Zanota have claimed lawsuits with the Israeli Supreme Court.

Critics say that going to the Israeli courts – which do not have judicial authority over the occupied lands, according to international law – is effectively legislating the occupation of Israel.

According to human rights groups, the Supreme Court in Israel has You play A major role in legalizing the policies that violate Palestinian rights, such as the green light to destroy Palestinian houses and the entire villages.

“The Supreme Court is another mechanism that is used to whiten the Israeli occupation,” said Barnes from BTSELEM.

Not another resort

Despite the historical role of the Supreme Court, many Palestinian Bedouins have presented cases with it.

Qamar Mashri, the Palestinian lawyer who represents Zanota, as well as other Badwin societies that have been expelled from its territory since October 7, won two cases until now.

In January 2024, Zanota and UMM DHARIT residents were informed that they had the legal right to return to their lands.

“We have to take advantage of every tool we are [as Palestinians] Tell the island.

But the Israeli settlers attacked families from Zanota when they tried to return, preventing society from rebuilding homes and grazing their animals, prompting many to flee again in September 2024.

With the help of my mushroom, the residents of Zanota made a second proposal in the court, calling on the Israeli authorities to protect society from Israeli settlers.

Last month, the court issued a decision that the army and the police should protect the people of Zanota, Ateel said. He added that families are relatively safe to try to return to Zanota again.

Dozens of other Bedouin societies that were expelled from their lands do not feel lucky.

Many fear that they will lose their lands and their way of life, even if they start a legal battle.

Abu Bashar, from Wadi Al -Sakis, said that his community is still awaiting the Supreme Court to decide whether they can return to their lands.

Even if he can return legally, he worries the settlers to attack his community again.

“The settlers took everything from us: our homes, our tractors, our water supply and even our food,” he said to the island of the island.

“We are under the siege.”
