A new survey has discovered that Indian Americans are increasingly optimistic about the future of India, but they have deep concerns about the United States and India’s relations under the second Donald Trump administration.

A pivotal elections occurred in India and the United States last year, amid an in -depth partnership – but sometimes tense. Tension between countries erupted on a The American Federal Federation of Indian billionaire Gotam Adani and An assassination plot supports Delhi on American soil.

With more than five million Indian population in the United States, the poll asked some of the main questions: How do Indian Americans view for former President Joe Biden’s dealings with the ties of the United States and India? Do they see Donald Trump a better option? How do they evaluate the course of India after the 2024 elections?

Here are some fast food from the report, which were based on an online acting survey of 1206 American adults.

Trump V, Biden on India

The Indian Americans classified the treatment of the Biden administration with the United States and India’s relations more positively than Trump’s first state.

The virtual Kamala Harris administration was considered the best for bilateral relations than Trump’s second term during the polling.

Party polarization plays a major role: 66 % of Indian American Republicans believe that Trump was better for the United States and India relations, while only 8 % of Democrats agree.

On the contrary, half of the American Indian Democrats prefer Biden, compared to 15 % of Republicans.

Since most Indian Americans are Democrats, this gives Biden the total edge.

During their meeting in February at the White House, Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised each other, but Trump criticize High commercial definitions in India, describing them as a “big problem”.

Controversy “killing against rental”

The alleged Indian plot to assassinate the separatist on American soil was not widely recorded – only half of the respondents realize this.

In October, the United States accused a former Indian intelligence officer of attempting to kill and laundering money by allegedly planning to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh PanCalling on the United States of the United States of the Independent Sikhs, Khalestan.

This represents the first time that the Indian government was directly involved in an alleged assassination attempt on the dissident. India stated that it is cooperating with the American investigation. In January, a committee was established by India to examine Washington’s allegations Improved The legal procedure against an unveiled individual is believed to be the former intelligence agent.

The vast majority of respondents said that India “will not be justified in taking such a measure and carrying identical feelings around the United States if the positions are reversed.”

Israel and the Palestinians

Indian Americans are divided along partisan partisan lines, where Democrats express greater sympathy for the Palestinians and Republicans who tend to Israel.

Four out of 10 of the respondents believe that Biden was very supportive in the ongoing conflict.

The attack was killed in October 2023 by Hamas fighters from Gaza, about 1,200 people, most of whom were civilians, inside Israel and saw 251 people. Most of them have been issued in ceasefire or other arrangements.

The Israeli military attack killed more than 48,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them are women and children, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.

It is expected to resume talks to prolong the fragile ceasefire, which ended on the first stage of March 1, in Qatar on Monday.

India looks up

Forty -seven percent of Indian Americans believe that India is heading in the right direction, an increase of 10 points over four years.

The same share approves Modi’s performance as prime minister. In addition, four out of 10 of the respondents feel that the Indian elections 2024 – as the Moody party did not get the majority – made the country more democratic.

The poll found that many Indian Americans support Modi and believe that India is on the right track, yet the half is unaware of the alleged assassination attempt on American soil.

Does this indicate a gap in accessing information, selective participation, or a tendency to overlook certain measures in favor of the wider national feelings?

“It is difficult to upset the exact cause of this, but our feeling is that this has a greater relationship with selective participation,” said Milan Fishnaf, the co -author of the study.

The data collected by Carnegie in 2020 shows that about 60 % of Indian Americans follow the Indian government and public affairs regularly, leaving an important part “only participating intermittently”.

“People often make broad impressions based on a mixture of news, social media and interactions with friends and family. Given the flood of news in the United States recently, it is not quite surprising that the” murder of rental “has not interrupted a large part of society.”

The Indian Americans, although they are warned against Trump and they generally prefer Biden or Harris for the United States and India relations, continuing Modi strongly in India. Given Moody’s national policies, what explains this difference? Is it more than personal impact more than ideology?

“This is a case,” said Mr. Fishnaf.

He said in relevant research, “We discovered this question deeply and we found that Indian Americans are generally more liberal opinions on American policy issues compared to India.”

“For example, while Indian-Muslim American-Minor Americans in India and the United States-maintain more liberal positions, Indian Hindu Americans express liberal opinions in the United States (where they are a minority) but they are more conservative in India, where they belong to the majority.

“In other words, the majority of a person or the minority plays a major role in shaping his political views,” said Mr. Fishnaf.

If the Indian Americans look that Trump represents a threat to bilateral relations, then why did they embrace him during his first term, as it appears in events such as “Hello Modi!”? Did Trump’s opinion turn because of his policies, or is it more than changing political currents?

“We should not generalize from one event or even one slide of the Indian American population. More than 50,000 Indian American gather in” HowDy, Modi! First of all, Moody does not see, not Trump.

“Secondly, this is the diverse diaspora with a group of political opinions. While Indian Americans tend to be an overwhelming majority towards the Democratic Party, a very large minority – we appreciate about 30 % in 2024 – support Republicans during the Trump era.”

The Indian Americans remain committed to the Democratic Party, but the link has declined. A survey last year found about 47 % of Democrats, a decrease from 56 % in 2020.

Does the Indian Americans have an accurate understanding of the political developments in both countries, or are their opinions more affected by the narratives that depend on the diaspora and the echo rooms of the media?

Mr. Vaishnav said that the data from 2020 shows that online news was the main source of information about India, followed by television, social media and oral word. Inside social media, YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp were the most common platforms.

“Direct participation with India is more limited, as Indian Americans are usually involved in the United States.

“After saying this, one should not ignore the fact that cultural communication links are still very strong, even with the second and third generation of Indian Americans.”

In the end, the survey confirms a complex image of the American -Indian society – those formed by a mixture of selective participation, changing political winds and changing personal experiences.
