Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton among celebrities to lose homes

Billy Crystal said he and his wife, Janice, were “heartbroken.”

Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton are among the celebrities who lost their homes in the deadly wildfires raging in the Los Angeles area.

More than 1,000 buildings were destroyed as six separate fires burned in and around the city, which is dotted with movie stars’ mansions.

Some of the worst devastation occurred in the scenic Pacific Palisades region, where the wind inferno has exploded from several hundred acres to more than 15,000 acres since Tuesday.

A wide swath of the neighborhood, a haven of streets nestled in the hillsides off the Santa Monica Mountains and extending to beaches along the Pacific Ocean, was reduced to ash.

Actor James Woods says his home in Pacific Palisades is gone

Actor James Woods, who has starred in films including Nixon and Casino, broke down in tears on CNN as he described the loss of his property in Pacific Palisades.

“One day you’re swimming in the pool and the next day everything’s gone,” he told the network.

He wiped away tears as he described how his wife’s eight-year-old niece offered them her piggy bank to help rebuild their house.

Actor Billy Crystal said in a statement that he and his wife, Janice, are “heartbroken” to lose their home in Pacific Palisades where they had lived since 1979.

“We raised our children and grandchildren here,” the “When Harry Met Sally” star said in a statement.

“Every inch of our home was filled with love. Beautiful memories that cannot be taken away.

“We are sad, of course, but with the love of our children and friends, we will get through this.”

Paris Hilton, who appeared in this photo in December, said it was “something no one should ever have to experience.”

Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler and Michael Keaton are said to have homes in the Pacific Palisades area.

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton said she lost her Malibu home.

“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our house in Malibu burn to the ground live on TV is something no one should ever experience,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“This home is where we have built so many precious memories… My heart and prayers go out to every family affected by these fires.”

Miles Teller, best known for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, and his wife, Kelly Sperry, also lost their home in Pacific Palisades.

Posting on Instagram, Sperry shared a photo of the fires and a broken heart emoji.

She urged people to leave water bowls for animals they left behind while evacuating their homes.

Other stars forced to flee their homes include Star Wars actor Mark Hamill and Schitt’s Creek actor Eugene Levy.

In an Instagram post, Hamill described the fire as “the most horrific” since 1993, when it burned 18,000 acres and destroyed 323 homes in Malibu.

He said he evacuated his Malibu home “at the last minute there.” [were] Small fires on both sides of the road.

Eugene Levy described black smoke appearing on the horizon before he was evacuated

Levy described to local media the smoke “black and intense” over the Temescal Valley.

“I couldn’t see any flames but the smoke was very dark,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

Actor Cameron Matheson also shared a clip of his home being reduced to smoldering rubble. “We are safe. But this is what’s left of our beautiful home,” the General Hospital star wrote.

“Our home where our children grew up and where they wanted to raise their children one day.”

Legendary songwriter Diane Warren, who wrote many classic songs, including “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” also lost her home.

She posted a photo of the beach near her home, saying that the property she had owned for nearly three decades had disappeared.

Actor Steve Guttenberg, best known for the Police Academy, stayed behind to help the firefighters by moving cars to clear the way for oncoming fire engines.

He urged fellow residents of Pacific Palisades to leave the keys in their abandoned cars so they could be moved.

It’s not just famous residents affected by the bushfires.

Palisades Charter High School – used in the 1976 horror classic Carrie – was destroyed.

Past students include director JJ Abrams, musician William I.A.M., and actor Forest Whitaker.

Star-studded events have also been cancelled.

The premieres of Unstoppable, Better Man and Wolfman have been cancelled, as have the live Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony, while the Oscar nominations ceremony has been postponed.

Meanwhile, a new fire broke out Wednesday night, the Sunset Fire, in the Hollywood Hills, near where the world-famous Hollywood sign sits on the hillside.
