Gaza’s silent epidemic | Opinions

Two months have passed since the ceasefire began in Gaza. The Palestinians are still killing at the hands of the Israeli army, but the uncompromising bombing is stopped – at least at the present time. The aid that affects the need was cut and allowed to enter the tape two weeks ago.
What entered the month and a half the previous month can barely lead to the revitalization of the collapsed health care system in Gaza. Several hospitals and clinics have been destroyed, especially in the north, to the extent that humanitarian organizations had to create tents to provide basic care for hundreds of thousands of survivors. Medical supplies that have already exhausted.
In the midst of this continuous torment, the Gaza healthcare system cannot start recovering, and much less than to address the multiple health crises suffering from the civilian population. One of the worst is the horrific number of parties that Israel has left for Israel to use explosive weapons for 15 months.
According to the World Health Organization, as of September 2024, 22,500 people in Gaza have been injured in life changed since October 7, 2023, including severe limb injuries, amputation, shock of spinal cord, shocking brain injuries, and main burns.
At the height of the genocide war, relief agencies and medical organizations reported that more than 10 children were losing a party or party every day in Gaza. Many were undergoing anesthesia and many of these parties could have been saved if the health care system was not completely removed. In December, the United Nations said Gaza has “the largest number of children’s amputee for the world.”
In July 2024, while I was on a field visit to Al -Shuhada Al -Aqsa Hospital, I saw what was one of the last hospitals operating in Gaza struggle to help those who were wounded in explosive weapons. When I arrived at the hospital, many people were injured due to many bombings.
She rushed to help as there was a severe shortage of employees. The first patient she attended is a four -year -old injured girl. She lost one of her legs due to the bombing and she was crying and screaming hard. Her mother, who was also seriously injured, could not come to help her. I couldn’t do much for the little girl except for changing her bandage and giving her a pain reliever.
Then I saw a young man named Abdullah, who was seriously injured and conscious. Upon arrival at the hospital, the rest of the leg was amputated. His father told me that Jeddah Abdullah and one of his brothers were killed.
I went back to the hospital in December 2024, where I came across two small girls, Hanan, 3 years, and bad, one year and 8 months, and their parties and their mother were in an Israeli raid a few months ago. Hanan was amputated, while her sister, Mesc, lost one of her. Their aunt, to which I talked about the struggle for their care.
Mesc has just learned to walk when the shelling was wounded. Hanan was great enough to understand and notice the feet of other children of her age, and they asked the reason missing.
These are only a few stories of thousands of children whose childhood was shortened by Israeli bombs. They are unable to run and play with their peers, and they suffer from severe shock in a place that cannot provide them with basic care.
Before this war, genocide, Gaza was already struggling with a large number of parties and victims of the previous Israeli wars The attacks on peaceful demonstrations.
But there were some facilities and organizations helping them. Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Synthetic Parties managed to provide the limbs with the artificial outskirts. Various initiatives provided support programs and social psychological treatment to overcome shock and stigma. But all of these have disappeared now. Hamad Hospital was destroyed within the first few weeks of the genocide war.
Hospitals designed and temporary clinics are barely able to provide any care for chronic diseases, and much less for persons with disabilities. The RAFAH border crossing is now closed again and none of the injured can travel for treatment. There is an urgent need for thousands of artificial parties and auxiliary devices such as crutches and wheelchairs, but not allowed.
With the extent of the damage suffered by the health care sector in Gaza, it will take years to rebuild it – and that is if Israel stops withholding assistance as a form of collective punishment. At this time, amplifiers will inevitably suffer not only from lack of care and rehabilitation but also from the deep psychological shock that will remain without any right. This will be the silent Gaza epidemic.
