Donald Trump says US will ‘100%’ strike trade deal with EU

Donald Trump said that there will be “100 percent” commercial deal with the European Union, in a rare offer to optimistic about his relationship with Europe, where Prime Minister Italy, Georgia Meloni, met at the White House.

Meloni, who designed a strong personal relationship with Trump, was in Washington on Thursday to try to get rid of any escalation of the US President’s trade war and definitions of the European Union.

“Oh, there will be a commercial deal, 100 percent,” Trump said in reference to the unified market. “They want to make a lot, we will conclude a commercial deal, and I expect it completely and it will be a fair business deal.”

Trump’s comments were distinguished by a tone after he and his most important consultants interpreted the European Union as “compassionate”, while accusing the bloc of “tearing” the United States.

Meloni also served as a memorandum of confidence about the progress of the talks to conclude a deal, just over two weeks after Trump announced the definitions of commercial partners, including the European Union.

“I am sure we can make a deal and I am here to help with that,” said Meloni, who urged Brussels not to escalate the trade war.

She also said that Trump agreed to visit Italy, and that she would try to arrange him to meet other European leaders during his journey.

“The goal for me is to make the West great again – and I think we can do this together,” she said, noting that “the Idea of Wake up”.

Trump has extended praise for Meloni, describing it as a “great talent” and “one of the real leaders in the world.”

But the US President refused to communicate with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Lin, who was in close contact with her journey.

European Union officials and United States have started talks this week on Trump’s tariff for imports of the bloc, which were now 25 percent on steel, aluminum, cars, and 10 percent on all other exports.

Washington has threatened to a 20 percent tariff for imports from the European Union within 90 days if the talks fail.

However, the European Union’s commercial negotiators complained that they were not submitted to the demands of the United States, which officials hope that the Italian leader will explain.

Stefano Stefanini, a former Italian ambassador to NATO, said Meloni “has an advantage over European Union brokers – and she speaks to the decision.”

He said that her meeting with Trump may be useful for the European Union to find out what it wants. The American trade representative does not really know [that]Stefanini added.

“When Trump participates on the basis of” national interest “, this is his favorite language,” Stefanini said. “It may not give up, but it is something that he understands. If you talk to him about the Atlantic solidarity, this is a waste of time.”

Before the meeting, senior US officials said that Trump will discuss defense spending, as well as the digital services tax in Italy, which trade officials argue with discrimination against American companies.

“President Trump is clear to all leaders all over the world when it comes to trade, his expectations are policies … they recognize a real partnership and access to the world’s markets on behalf of American manufacturing,” an official said.

He added: “We are open, we are available, we are ready to hold offers with countries that take this seriously.”

On Thursday, Trump also boasted about the income resulting from its definitions. “We win a lot of money, and we take a lot of money,” Trump said. “We take billions of dollars and billions of dollars.”

The United States is the second largest export market in Italy, and the definitions will increase the pressure on the slow economic growth of Italy. “We know that we are in a difficult moment.” Watermelon She said before her journey. “We will do our best, as always.”

Meloni at the White House indicated that Italy will buy more LNG from the United States, and Italian companies will invest up to 10 billion euros in the country, and Rome will soon announce that it meets its commitment to NATO to spend up to 2 percent of the gross domestic product of defense.

Trump gave little general hints of his demands in the European Union in exchange for declining tariffs. “I am not a great admirer in Europe and what they did with immigration,” he said. “They have to become smart.”

Stefanini said Washington could press Europe to get away from China. “If the European Union concludes a deal with the United States, it will be forced to remove the risk or separate the shelves from China as a result. It is either China or the United States.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping was hoping to take advantage of commercial tensions in Brussels Washington, indicating that China and the European Union “must” jointly resist bullying from one side. “But Meloni has long been careful from China, which it considers a strategic competition for the West, and in 2023 Italy officially withdrew the belt and road infrastructure initiative.

While some European Union member states are angry at Italy’s soft position on reprisal customs duties, Brussels officials supported their journey. One diplomat said: “We realize that it has a relationship with Trump and can be of value,” said one of the diplomats.

Lucio Malan, a Senate member of his right -wing brothers in the Italian party in Meloni, said Meloni showed “courage” by speaking directly to Trump, given that the commercial policy is Brussels’s efficiency.

“It was easier to stay at home, and we say” after all, it worked in the European Union. “But Meloni” chose another way. ”
