Did Gervonta Davis Just Cancel His Fight With Lamont Roach?

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis posted on Instagram that his March 1 bout with Lamont Roach has been cancelled. Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) did not explain why his fight was cancelled.
Tank message: “Fighting is f**** canceled.”
Fans on social media greeted the cancellation with joy. They don’t want to see this albatross, especially since it’s on PPV. They see him as a mismatch, with lightweight and super-featherweight Roach (25-1, 10 KOs) no chance.
This problematic fight was rescheduled once from the original date of December 14, and has been criticized by fans since day one. The fight was postponed from that date due to a venue issue. It was hoped it would be cancelled, but instead, Premier Boxing Champions rescheduled it for March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Lamont Roach posted a workout video on Instagram just minutes after Tank Davis’ cancellation post, suggesting he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This could mean that Tank acted alone without telling anyone that his battle with Roach was over.
So, there is a possibility that the battle is still going on because the PBC did not say anything about canceling it, and they would have already done so if that had happened.
Given the backlash this fight received, Tank probably wishes it would be canceled as the criticism the fight generated is far worse than any of his previous mismatches.
The reason for this is that fans expect more from Davis now, given that this is his 11th year as a pro. He’s 30 years old, and this is a big step back for him after his fight against Ryan Garcia in 2023. Fans want to see Tank fight better, and Roach isn’t coming close to that.
He’s a super featherweight with no power, and he barely beat one of Tank’s knockout victims, Hector Garcia, by a 12-round split decision in November 2023 to win the WBA 130-pound title.
