Daniel Dubois Dismisses Joseph Parker As Having “Had His Day”

IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois dismissed challenger Joseph Parker, saying he “had his day” during a Face Off interview on DAZN ahead of their joint bout in next month’s Riyadh season on February 22 on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2.
Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) let 33-year-old and recently renewed former WBO heavyweight champion Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) know that his five-fight win streak would be halted. Parker and his team have made a big deal about their recent wins over 41-year-old Chili Zhang and 39-year-old Deontay Wilder.
The win over Zhang was questionable, as Parker was dropped twice in the fight, and it looked like it should have been a defeat under the circumstances. Wilder looked like a devastating fighter after his three fights against Tyson Fury.
So, it’s no surprise that Parker beat him because he looked like a classic example of an old fighter who can no longer pull the trigger. The power was still there for Wilder, but his reflexes were 100% gone.
Dubois, 27, is coming off a career-best fifth-round knockout over two-time former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on September 21 at Wembley Stadium in London.
Surprisingly, AJ didn’t even try to avenge his loss by pushing for an immediate rematch, as he did after his defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and Andy Ruiz. Joshua’s refusal to fight a rematch suggests that he or perhaps his promoters did not feel he was up to the task.
Dubois too strong?
Daniel Dubois: “He was at his best in his last two fights, but he had his day,” the IBF heavyweight champion said. DAZN boxingto promote his title defense on February 22.
Joseph Parker: “I’m just getting started. My day is coming.”
DuBois: What about Joe Joyce? What happened?”
Parker: “I’ve been sick. How about Joe Joyce for you?”
Dubois: “It’s different.”
Parker: “He should have knocked me out in the first round. I was sick. I went 11 rounds.”
Dubois: “I’ll rise to the occasion. I’ll be better than him in every department. Power and speed.”
Coach Andy Lee: “We know what Daniel has. Hard jab, great power and fairly quick. He’s not as fast as Joe, and he’s not as good at movement as Joe. What Joe has is intelligence. He’s a smart fighter. That’s how we defuse Deontay Wilder’s power, and that’s how we fought We beat Chang. What people underestimate is his extra size, and you’ll see that.
Parker: “I’ve been quietly building for what’s to come, and now we have this guy.”
Dubois: “I’m ready to fight. It’s the same thing. It’s just a different day.”
Frank Warren: “None of them take it seriously. It’s all about self-confidence.”
