Flurry of resignations after DOJ tells prosecutors to drop Eric Adams case

Several prosecutors – including the best American lawyers in Manhattan – have resigned – after the New York Ministry Office ordered a corruption case against the mayor of New York City Eric Adams.

It was first announced on Thursday that Daniel Sasson, a lawyer for President Donald Trump, was recently resigned after rejecting the case, a move that she said would put a “picturesque and dangerous precedent.”

Her departure was followed by the resignations of at least five senior officials of the Ministry of Justice.

The latest signs of anxiety were distinguished by the overwhelming changes of the Trump administration in the application of federal law.

In an indictment last September, it is claimed that Adams had accepted gifts that total more than $ 100,000 (75,000 pounds) from Turkish citizens for preferences. He denies the charges.

The case was initially filed by officials appointed by former President Joe Biden.

But on Monday, a Public Prosecutor’s Public Prosecutor, Emile Bouv, ordered the Public Prosecution exercises in Sasson and New York to drop the case, saying that she “restricts” the mayor’s ability to address “illegal immigration and violent crime” – the main goal of the Trump administration.

Bove did not address the advantages of the case and noticed that the Ministry of Justice will reserve the right to re -charge after New York City Municipal elections.

Sasson refused to drop the case, however, put her logic in a letter to the President of Bouv, Public Prosecutor Bam Bondi, on Thursday, saying that she had not seen “goodwill” as a reason to drop the case.

She wrote, “Because the law does not support the separation, and because I am sure Adams committed the crimes that I was charged, I cannot agree to the dismissal request led by incorrect considerations.”

Sasson said that her office held a meeting with Bove and Adams on January 31, where the mayors’ representatives presented “What has reached an interest in support”, saying that Adams will be able to help in management policies “only if the indictment is rejected” only “then The indictment was rejected. “

He said in a statement: “The idea that there is Quid Pro Quo [with the Trump administration] It is a complete lie. We did nothing and did not ask the administration anything about us. “

In a letter accepting her resignation, Bouv Sasson was accused of trying to “continue following up the claim with political motives despite explicit instructions to reject the case.”

He also said that the other prosecutors who worked in the Adams case will be placed on leave and will be subject to internal investigation – and Sasson will also be investigated.

Five prosecutors of the Ministry of Justice resigned on Thursday: John Keeler, Acting Head of the General Corruption Unit, and Kevin Drichol, a senior official in the ministry’s criminal section.

Later on Thursday, the American media reported three additional representatives in the Corruption Unit of the Ministry of Justice.

Sasson, 38, joined the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office in Manhattan in 2016 and was part of the team that sued FTX Founder Sam Bankan.

Mayor Adams, a democratic, expressed his willingness to work with the Trump administration when it comes to the strict immigration policy of the president. On Thursday, after a meeting with the “border border” Tom Human, the mayor agreed that immigration officials can re -establish an office in the city’s Rikeers prison in the city.

In a statement, Adams said: “I want to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to find a common ground and improve the lives of New York residents.”

The mayor of New York met with Trump in Florida a few days before his inauguration, then he attended his party on January 20. Adams denied at that time that he had discussed his legal issues with the next president.

On Thursday, Trump told the correspondents that he had not asked to drop the case against Adams.

However, Bove’s letter described his instructions to drop the case as “direct orders that implement an elected president’s policy by origins.”

Adams was accused last autumn of fraud and bribery and receiving campaign contributions from foreigners.

According to a 57 -page indict, it is claimed that the acceptable mayor in the hotel, luxurious meals and airlines promotions from Turkish citizens starting in 2016, when he was head of New York City in Brooklyn.

In one case, Adams is alleged to pay $ 600 to establish two nights in a luxury hotel in Istanbul, a visit of approximately $ 7,000.

He has admitted that he was not guilty and denies committing any violations.
