What America’s Muslims can teach you about resisting political oppression | Islamophobia

President Donald Trump’s protrusions against government transgressions and many abusive tactics. But is he asking his administration not to repeat these violations of power? Trump’s spokesman, Alex Patever, confirmed that the FBI candidate Cash Pateel “will end law enforcement” and “targeted crime”. I find this unlikely. Patel statements indicate that instead of ending these practices, the Trump administration will only increase persecution and attacks, criminal and civil, on that political opposition.

For those who wonder how administration that prefers to start justice and legal may spread law enforcement, unfounded investigations, and political revenge against those who have different views, there is a lot that must be learned from American Muslim experiences.

For us, it’s the same old story.

After the eleventh of September, a wide range of Islamic organizations in the United States targeted the application of the law under the pretext of fighting terrorism. This campaign included high -level investigations, asset officers, and general accusations. The employees of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), in their report that prevents faith in the freezing charity, said that “according to the employees of the September 11 Committee, Treasury officials admitted that in the post -11/10 period,” some proof institutions for the early population were very weak, And that the wheel to appoint charities after 11/9 [have] a result[ed] At a high level of wrong designations. ”Many other groups, including the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest organization to defend civil rights and defense in the United States, where I work, have been stained similarly.

Take CAIR, for example. If you are a Muslim in the United States with political opinions, especially on civil rights or issues that affect marginalized minorities, you have been subjected to government scrutiny. By 2011, then public lawyer Eric Holder concluded that “facts and law” did not support any legal action against CAIR. The Bush administration had previously reached the same conclusion. However, internet warriors who were not imposed by facts or law claimed that the decision was due to political intervention. American lawyer James Jacz, a major figure in one of the prosecution, issued a statement dealing with these allegations, saying: “The decision to accuse or not accuse the case depends on the analysis of evidence and the law. This is what happened in this case.”

However, posters and rumors continue. Be prepared, because this is more likely what you will face – alongside anyone who publicly expresses opposition or permanent opposition to a government position – under Trump 2.0. facts? law? Not in this case. The same old story: misleading information that serves the schedules of political business. It will make your allies hesitant to come to your defense. It will make the donors tense. You will obstruct your ability to advance charitable reasons.

In the case of American Muslims, analysts have defined different motives behind these attacks, many of which were not linked to “public safety”.

After September 11, the United States government was under severe pressure to prevent further attacks. The prosecution or investigation of Islamic organizations allowed officials to promote a novel to form local terrorism actively.

Racist hostile to Muslims, instead of evidence of criminal activity, has conceived that Islamic organizations were suspicious of their nature. Recently, Elon Musk, the owner of the newly headed government efficiency department in Trump, used his social media platform to perpetuate a novel about the Muslim bad guys who wander around Mustache.

Since September 11, US government agencies have been repeatedly rewarded by increasing financing and expanding power to implement anti -terrorist programs targeting Muslims, even when these programs were based on stereotypes and science that have not founded, and have not contributed anything to public safety. The New York police monitoring and appointment programs resulted in non -trials. Violent extremism management programs (CVE) of the Obama Administration have produced doubtful indicators, such as the idea that an individual’s cultivation or haircut may be a sign of malicious intention. Meanwhile, the concerns of the threat posed by ideological extremists such as white superiority.

In 2009, a report issued by the branch of extremism and extremism in the Department of Endowment Analysis of the Environment warned of the increasing threat of white superiority and violent wall groups. The Congress ignited it. The Ministry of Internal Security (DHS) has coordinated the report. The analyst of the Ministry of National Security left behind his job. His team was dissolved.

By 2011, journalist R Jeffrey Smith indicated that “up to 40 analysts” were focusing on al -Qaeda and its ideological allies. On the contrary, in 2012, the Spencer Akirman reporter stated that the Ministry of National Security had only one analyst in charge of tracking all forms of non -Islamic local extremism. In 2017, the government accountability office informed that 62 out of 85 extremist terrorist incidents in the United States after 11/11 were carried out by white nationalists.

By overcoming the government, American Muslims have learned a difficult lesson: When they want those in power to target you, you cannot do this to stop it. Overcoming the cover or its persecuted consent is not viable strategies. However, there are steps that you can take: give priority to serving your community, develop flexibility, refuse to change who you are to satisfy those in power, enhance legal readiness, and build your ability to communicate directly with the American people. It is a difficult path, but the movements that justice will make with a champion of thanks.
