Kambosos Headlines Sydney Card On March 22nd

George Kambosos Jr. will headline on March 22 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in Sydney, Australia. This will be the first fight with Eddie Hearn in Matchroom Boxing for former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs). Skye Nicholson will be on the card.

Hearn has not revealed his plans for Kambosos. He had wanted to schedule a fight between Kambosos and former IBF light welterweight champion Liam Barrow in Australia, but after Barrow’s defeat by Richardson Hitchens last December, that spoiled his plans.

Kambosos needs a win

Hearn is also promoting Hitchens, but a fight between him and Kambosos won’t be a big deal. It’s not a good idea to use Kambosos to feed Hitchens and watch him get beaten. Hearn will likely focus on landing a bigger fight for Kambosos Jr. against someone like Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, or Ryan Garcia.

Kambosos has arguably lost every fight in the last four years since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez on November 27, 2021. He did have one questionable win against Maxie Hughes on July 22, 2023. Many boxing fans saw that as a loss for Kambosos, as Hughes dominated The whole battle.

“I think Hitchens is a good fighter. I think he needs me, but I want him because I see the holes,” George Kambosos Jr. said. Trampling ground When asked why he wanted to fight IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchens so badly.

“I think 140 is what I can bring to the table with his basic style. He’s very basic. He’s good at the basics. “He’s got a good jab, a good left hand, a good right hand, but at 140, I think I can beat him,” he continued. Kambosos on Hitchens.

“[Liam] Barrow did very well in the first two rounds but got away with it. I think Barrow was involved in another potentially huge fight with my name as well. I see things in that fight. I love New York. It’s good ground for me, I like to be there but obviously I’m not the favourite. “I’m the underdog.”

The fall of the emperor

Kambosos has no chance against Hitchins or any other top-10 fighter at 140. He’s just a one-punch wonder who got lucky with a narrow 12-round split decision win over Teofimo Lopez. The little one The career of “Emperor” Kambosos was beginning to sink since then

Hitchens needs Kambosos to get a payday and get more attention in his career. However, in terms of opposition, Kambosos represents a huge step backwards for Richardson. He’s not in the same league as Hitchens’ recent fights against Liam Barrow, Gustavo Lemos, Jose Zepeda, or John Bauza.

“I think I’m another buzzy New Yorker. I feel like it’s all come together. I’m back with Match Room. I’m back with Eddie Hearn. I love Match Room. I love Eddie Hearn’s approach and vision. I feel comfortable. I’ve been with Lou for a year 2016. I love Lou… I feel like there is a direction and a good path to becoming a champion again. “I see that,” Kambosos said.
